Craig Coffey is a Colorado Springs broadcaster whose career moved from cruise-ship entertainment and South Florida radio to a seven-year run at KVUU 99.9 and, beginning in 2008, a long tenure as a FOX21/KXRM television anchor and executive producer.
Radio career
After college, Coffey worked as a cruise director before entering radio. By the late 1990s he was on the air at Mix 102.3 in West Palm Beach, Florida. He arrived at KVUU 99.9 in Colorado Springs around July 1999, initially hosting nights.
Contemporary Billboard/Airplay Monitor coverage documented his move to morning drive in March 2000, when he joined Casey Page and Jim Coda. Archived KVUU pages preserve the show’s evolution: Jim Coda, Casey Page and Craig Coffey in 2001; Casey and Coffey in 2002; and Coffey and Alisha in the Morning by early 2005. When the station changed from K-View 99.9 to My 99.9, Coffey remained its morning anchor. Darren McKee joined the show in May 2005, and the station was promoting Coffey in the Morning by the end of that year.
Coffey’s years at KVUU also included highly visible community work. After Hurricane Katrina, he began broadcasting from a downtown Colorado Springs restaurant balcony on Sept. 1, 2005 while My 99.9 pursued a $99,999 relief goal. Industry coverage reported that he stayed aloft for more than eight days, taking listener donations and distributing Mardi Gras beads.
In August 2006, Coffey left KVUU after roughly seven years to join Entercom country station KKWF/100.7 The Wolf in Seattle. His final Colorado Springs morning team included Darren McKee and Coba. In April 2007, industry reporting placed him temporarily in mornings at sister station KBWF/95.7 The Wolf in San Francisco.
Television career
Coffey returned to Colorado Springs in January 2008 and joined KXRM-TV/FOX21. He became a morning anchor and executive producer, bringing the conversational instincts of radio into local television. A 2019 Colorado Springs Gazette profile noted that he had already spent nearly twelve years informing area viewers. His current professional profile continues to identify him as an anchor and executive producer at KXRM and sister station KXTU.
