Wallace “Wally” Cotton was the radio name of Earl Poteet, a longtime Pueblo radio personality and community emcee whose career included KDZA. Poteet’s identity as Wallace Cotton has been confirmed to the Colorado Radio Archive through first-hand local knowledge from someone who knew the Southern Colorado radio market and the personalities involved.
On KDZA, Wally became part of the morning show with Nick Donovan and Charlie after Laurie Geiser left the program. That lineup represents a later chapter of Donovan’s long-running Pueblo morning-radio career.
Independent documentation confirms Cotton’s public identity as a Pueblo broadcaster. Colorado State University-Pueblo described Wallace Cotton as a “local radio personality” when he emceed the university’s 2010 Athletics Hall of Fame induction. His association with Nick Donovan continued long after their KDZA era; a 2024 Cañon Car Club event promoted a Nick Donovan music festival featuring guest DJ Wally. Cotton/Poteet has also been active as a musician in Southern Colorado.
Also known as: Earl Poteet; Wallace Cotton; Wally.
