Alan White, whose real name is Al Vasquez, was a major Colorado Springs rock-radio personality, programmer and production specialist best known for his years at KILO 94.3.
White was already established as KILO’s music director by the mid-1980s. A 1985 Radio & Records profile of KILO quoted White’s description of the station’s loose, personality-driven album-rock approach as “a big playground with a fence around it.” Trade publications throughout 1987 and 1988 regularly identified him as KILO’s Music Director.
By May 1988, The Hard Report listed White in middays from 9 a.m. to noon. In 1988 and 1989, Billboard recognized him among the country’s leading small-market rock music directors while KILO itself was earning national small-market rock honors.
In late 1989, White left KILO for a Denver-based record-promotion job with Atco Records. The Hard Report noted that former KILO MD Alan White had become Atco’s Denver local representative.
White returned to KILO in December 1991 as Assistant Program Director and afternoon-drive personality. Billboard and The Hard Report both documented the move. By July 1993, after Catherine Swendson left the station, White added Music Director duties again and was subsequently listed as KILO’s APD/MD.
On Jan. 28, 1994, The Hard Report announced that White would leave KILO effective Feb. 8, 1994 to pursue opportunities outside radio. Dave Milne moved into afternoon drive and APD duties, while Dave Hawkins came from KKFM/KKMG to become KILO’s evening personality and Production Director.
White later became closely associated with commercial production in Colorado Springs radio. Career materials identify production-director work as a major part of his 45-plus-year broadcasting career, including work with the Citadel Colorado Springs operation.
In February 2021, under his real name Al Vasquez, he was hired as Production Manager for the new KPPF/Power Media Group operation serving Colorado Springs. RadioInsight and the Colorado Springs Gazette both documented the appointment.
