KCBR was the long-running call sign on 1040 AM in Monument from Sept. 18, 1989 through Dec. 16, 2020, serving the Colorado Springs market.
The calls originally reflected the station’s business-radio positioning. Over the following three decades, the facility cycled through a number of formats. By 2014 it was paired with FM translator 98.5 and became variety-hits Tailgate 98; it moved to oldies as Crusin’ 98.5 in 2015, classic hip-hop as Blazin’ 98.5 in 2016, and a comedy/1990s hybrid as Hits & Giggles in 2018 before returning to Blazin’ in 2020.
FCC filings document the 1040 facility at 5050 Edison Ave. during the KCBR era. The station changed hands several times before Power 95.7 LLC acquired it in late 2020.
On Dec. 16, 2020, KCBR became KPPF.
Facility: 1040 AM, Monument — FCC Facility ID 10846.
Call-sign lineage: KRTS → KKRE → KCBR → KPPF.
