In 1979, the 92.1 FM facility later known as KJMN signed on as KMJD with a country format. Over the following two decades the frequency cycled through several formats before becoming a major player in Denver's rhythmic-radio battle.
92.1 becomes adult contemporary KRKY
In 1983, Denver-area KMJD 92.1 changed to adult contemporary and adopted the KRKY call letters. The format lasted roughly a year before another change.
