Bill Pierson founded Denver rock station KBPI and served as its original owner and general manager. KBPI signed on June 21, 1965 at 105.9 FM from studios on the 20th floor of the Daniels & Fisher Tower. The call letters represented “Bill Pierson Incorporated.”
Pierson launched KBPI with a progressive-rock approach before selling the station in 1974. Under later ownership, KBPI developed into a dominant album-rock brand and retained the identity Pierson created.
