COLORADO RADIO PERSONALITY

Henry Reyes

Henry Reyes was a Pueblo radio newsman and personality whose work at KAPI helped create one of Southern Colorado’s enduring cultural traditions.

The 1966 Broadcasting Yearbook listed Reyes as news director of KAPI 690. He also hosted Spanish-language programming serving Pueblo’s Hispanic community.

Reyes was a driving force behind the creation of Fiesta Day at the Colorado State Fair. Historical accounts say he persuaded fair manager Don Svedman to devote a day to Hispanic culture and, working with KAPI manager George Sandoval, helped bring prominent Mexican performers to the fair in 1966. Fiesta Day became an annual event beginning in the late 1960s.
