Charlie Brown was a Colorado Springs businessman and radio owner who helped launch KILO‘s album-rock era.
When the former KPIK-FM was separated from its AM sister in 1978, the FM adopted the KILO name and album-oriented rock format. Contemporary trade coverage and later KILO histories identify Brown as a principal in KILO Broadcasting alongside Robert “Bob” Telmosse.
Radio trade coverage marking KILO‘s 25th anniversary recalled that the station’s previous owner offered the FM to Brown and Telmosse as the KPIK operation was being divided. KILO Broadcasting later sold the station to Bahakel Communications in the mid-1980s.
Brown remained in Colorado Springs and later operated a local travel agency.
