Karen Conway was a Colorado Springs country-radio voice in the late ’70s. If you had KSSS 740 AM on in the evening back then, she kept you company until midnight.
Evenings on KSSS
Station listings place Karen on KSSS from 6 p.m. to midnight, following afternoon host Larry Montgomery. The lineup was led by program director Bob May and music director Dave Beadles. It was a time when AM still carried much of the Springs’ country audience.
Community promotion
A July 1978 issue of Radio & Records pictured Karen with fellow KSSS staff at a promotional appearance by Warner Bros. recording artist Susie Allanson. Admission was a can of food, and several hundred cans were collected for a local charity serving older residents, a good example of the community events that were a big part of local radio then.
