KBZE was the call sign used by Colorado Springs’ 105.5 FM station from 1989 to 1991. Branded “The Breeze,” the station offered new-age and smooth-jazz programming before changing to country music as KHII.
History
Optima Communications acquired the former KWYD-FM and introduced the KBZE identity in 1989. The “Breeze” presentation distinguished the station with a mellow, instrumental-oriented sound. In 1991 the call letters changed to KHII and the station adopted country programming as “K-High.” A later local marketing agreement with Pikes Peak Broadcasting linked the station’s operation with other Colorado Springs outlets. It shifted to smooth jazz as KSKX in 1996.
