KRYT was the original call sign of Colorado Springs’ 1530 AM facility. The station signed on February 9, 1964, and used KRYT until 1977, when it became KXXV. Later call signs included KKCS, KCMN, KKHI and KQSC.
History
The station was established as a local AM service for Colorado Springs and initially operated on 1530 kHz. Its call letters changed to KXXV in 1977 and KKCS in 1979. The facility later spent more than three decades as KCMN before taking the KKHI and KQSC identities. This record is for the Colorado Springs 1530 AM KRYT and is distinct from a later KRYT identity used on Pueblo 1350 AM.

1964: KRYT begins at 1047 S. Circle Drive
1964 — KRYT 1530 began broadcasting in Colorado Springs. The 1969 Broadcasting Yearbook documents KRYT at 1047 S. Circle Drive, with William S. Cook as president, general manager and chief engineer. KRYT-FM 101.9, which signed on in 1967, was part of the same operation.
