KGMQ-AM

KGMQ was the call sign used by Pueblo’s 1480 AM station from May 1982 to June 1983. It was the first of a rapid series of call-letter and ownership changes on the facility that later became KIXD.

History

The 1480 kHz station began in 1960 as KTUX. It later used KPUB before the Gunter Corporation acquired the station in 1982 and changed its call sign to KGMQ. Erway Communications acquired it in 1983 and changed the calls to KAYK. The station subsequently cycled through further identities, including KAVI, KREL and KIXD. Ownership transfers and call changes during the 1980s and 1990s make the 1480 facility’s history distinct from the separate 103.9 MHz KPUB-FM service.
