Bill Kleronomos (c. 1951–November 13, 2012) was a longtime Colorado broadcast engineer best known as chief engineer of KBCO-FM in Boulder. He became KBCO‘s chief engineer in 1995 and remained an important member of the station and Clear Channel Denver engineering operation until his death at age 61.
KBCO and Clear Channel
Kleronomos served as KBCO‘s chief engineer beginning in 1995. As KBCO became part of the Clear Channel operation, his technical work extended beyond the station itself and he became an integral member of the company’s Denver engineering team.
Digital radio engineering
Kleronomos played a role in Clear Channel’s early HD Radio deployment. Mike Irby, Clear Channel Denver’s Director of Engineering & IT, recalled working with Kleronomos even before Irby moved to Denver and specifically credited him as instrumental during the company’s early HD rollout.
Amateur radio and legacy
Outside his professional engineering work, Kleronomos was active in amateur radio under the call sign KD0HG. Colleagues remembered him for his willingness to assist other engineers and stations, and his reputation extended beyond Denver through both professional broadcasting and the amateur-radio community.
Kleronomos died on November 13, 2012, at age 61. His death prompted tributes from colleagues across Clear Channel and the broadcast-engineering community.
