Gregg Stone, known for many years as Uncle Nasty, is a rock-radio personality and voice talent whose Colorado career is most closely associated with KBPI-FM.
KBPI
Stone arrived in Denver in 1990 and joined KBPI, developing Uncle Nasty into one of the market’s most recognizable hard-rock personalities. His gruff delivery, knowledge of heavy metal and support for new Colorado music distinguished his weekday afternoon show. He also created and hosted the overnight metal program Metalix.
With the exception of work at stations including KSJO in San Jose and KBER in Salt Lake City, Stone spent much of the next two decades on Denver radio. Clear Channel released him from KBPI in 2012, but he soon returned locally on 107.1 Jack FM. He later rejoined the iHeart Denver rock lineup, including work on KRFX-FM and KBPI after the latter’s 2017 frequency move.
Music and voice work
Stone fronted the Denver metal band Horse, which Westword named the city’s best metal band in 2009. He also built a voice-over career and has worked with Warrior Voices, which trains military veterans for voice performance.
