Pete MacKay is an award-winning Colorado radio personality whose career has crossed alternative, classic rock and specialty music programming.
Denver radio career
MacKay was a longtime Denver voice by the 1990s. He co-hosted mornings with Mari Szatkowski at KXPK-FM (96.5 The Peak) and also hosted classic-rock specialty programming, including Classic Rock Archives and Nostalgic Rock. At KQMT-FM (99.5 The Mountain), he became one of the station’s best-known “Mountain guides” and held afternoon-drive hours after the station’s 2008 lineup reorganization.
MacKay’s run at The Mountain ended in 2009 in a layoff that also affected Steve Millin. Westword described him as a Denver longtimer who had been recognized as the city’s top DJ in its 2004 Best of Denver edition.
Later Colorado work
MacKay continued producing Colorado music programming. His Mile Stones with Pete MacKay — Bastille was recognized by the Colorado Broadcasters Association in the 2014 awards for work at KKVM-FM in Vail.
