KWCS was the construction-permit-era call sign assigned to the 101.3 FM facility licensed to Walsenburg, Colorado. The station did not begin regular broadcasting under the KWCS identity; the call sign belongs to the developmental history of the facility that later signed on as KOCK and became KFEZ.
Construction-permit period
Federal call-sign records place KWCS on the facility from 2005 until 2008. The station changed call letters to KOCK before commencing program service. KOCK signed on January 7, 2009, with a rock format, establishing the first operating identity of the 101.3 facility.
Later identity
The facility became KFEZ in 2012. Although the programming and ownership history belongs primarily to the KOCK and KFEZ eras, retaining KWCS as a separate archive record preserves the call sign under which the Walsenburg allocation was developed.
