Harry Behler founded the station that started out as KGEK in Yuma, out on Colorado’s eastern plains. If you grew up listening to the Sterling-area station that is now KSTC, his is the name behind where it all began.
Wikipedia says the station “was founded in 1938 by Harry Behler” and was first licensed as KGEK in Yuma, about 60 miles southeast of Sterling, before it moved to Sterling in the 1950s. Other sources spell the name “Beehler” and give different years, so the dates are still being sorted out.
This is a short stub. We’re still working on the full story.
