COLORADO RADIO PERSONALITY

Karen Conway

Karen Conway was a Colorado Springs country-radio personality during the late 1970s, working at KSSS 740 AM during the station’s country era.

Contemporary station listings place Conway on KSSS from 6 p.m. to midnight, following afternoon host Larry Montgomery. The lineup was led by program director Bob May and music director Dave Beadles. Her evening assignment made Conway part of the station’s daily country presentation during a period when AM radio still carried much of Colorado Springs’ country audience.

Trade coverage provides an additional glimpse of Conway’s role beyond the regular shift. A July 1978 issue of Radio & Records pictured her with fellow KSSS personnel during a promotional appearance by Warner Bros. recording artist Susie Allanson. Admission to the event was a can of food, with several hundred cans collected for a local charity serving older residents—an example of the community promotions that were an important part of local radio work in the era.

The surviving record establishes Conway as part of KSSS’s late-1970s air staff. Available sources do not provide enough evidence to identify her later career with confidence, so this archive does not attribute unrelated present-day records for people sharing her name.
