COLORADO RADIO PERSONALITY

Dave Hawkins

Dave Hawkins had a wide-ranging Southern Colorado radio career that included KATM, KIKX, KILO, KKCS and KVUU, along with production work for KKFM/KKMG.

By 1993, Hawkins was working nights at KIKX 102.7 “The Max”. In June 1993, Radio & Records reported that he left The Max for crosstown KKFM as Production Director; Maria Stevens moved into the KIKX night shift after his departure.

In January 1994, The Hard Report reported that Hawkins, then Production Director for KKFM and KKMG, was joining KILO as evening announcer and Production Director. Radio & Records reported his exit from KILO evenings in February 1997.

By June 1997, Hawkins had moved to KKCS for nights. A July 31, 1998 Radio & Records photo caption identifies Hawkins as a KKCS staffer alongside PD Mike James, music director Travis Daily and other station personnel during a visit by Atlantic recording act The Great Divide. In September 1998 he left KKCS to return to KILO.

By July 1999, Hawkins moved from KILO, where he had again been Production Director, to KVUU/K-View 99.9 for middays while also handling production and imaging.

His earlier KATM work is preserved here as a Colorado radio oral-history contribution while its exact dates are still being documented.

Hawkins later worked in Colorado Springs audio production; the American Advertising Federation Colorado credits him for audio engineering and sound design on a 2010 Silver ADDY-winning local radio spot.
