KWRP-AM

The 690 AM Pueblo facility dates to the late 1950s. It was documented first as KAPP and then became KAPI, which developed a substantial Spanish-language service. In 1979 KAPI added KAPI-FM 107.1, creating an AM/FM pair; both became KRMX in 1981.

KRMX-FM separated from the AM in 1985, while 690 retained the KRMX calls through 2009. The AM briefly became KSIP and then KWRP, a call sign commonly interpreted as “We Are Pueblo.” KWRP has operated with oldies-oriented programming and FM translators.

Paired / sister stations: The most important historic pairing was KAPI/KAPI-FM and then KRMX/KRMX-FM. In modern years KWRP has been paired with KFEZ under common ownership.

Call-sign lineage: KAPP → KAPI → KRMX → KSIP → KWRP.
