COLORADO RADIO PERSONALITY

Chopper Harrison

Chopper Harrison, whose real name is documented as Dave Martin, was a programmer and morning personality associated with KYZX during the station's late-1990s classic-rock era.

In 1999, after KYZX shifted from 104.5 to 103.9 FM and refocused its signal toward Colorado Springs, trade publication Rock Airplay Monitor identified Harrison as program director and morning host. Harrison joined KYZX from afternoons at WRQC in Minneapolis and was also identified in the trade press as a cancer survivor.

To promote the relaunched “Eagle 103.9,” Harrison stayed on the air for roughly 94 hours in a marathon broadcast that raised money for the American Cancer Society. Rock Airplay Monitor reported in July 1999 that Harrison had exited KYZX, with APD/midday host Jason Jane replacing him as program director.

A 2005 memorial message written by Harrison for a longtime friend was signed “Chopper Harrison (Dave Martin),” providing a surviving published connection between his air name and real name.

The 103.9 facility later changed from KYZX to KRXP in 2008.
