The facility that became KRXP signed on in 1993 at 104.5 FM as KYZX, originally a hot adult-contemporary station co-owned with KCSJ and KNKN. KYZX changed to country in 1996 and classic rock in 1998.
In 1999 Pueblo Broadcasters sold KYZX, KGHF and KCSJ to Cy Bahakel’s Colorado Springs Radio Broadcasters, owner of KILO, for $4.5 million. Later that year KYZX moved from 104.5 to 103.9 FM and changed its city of license from Pueblo to Pueblo West.
KYZX continued as “103.9 The Eagle” before changing calls to KRXP in October 2008. The station gradually moved from classic rock into alternative/modern rock and later adopted the X103.9 branding.
Current era
In July 2025, X103.9 restructured its weekday lineup and programming leadership. The station added the syndicated Woody & Wilcox show in mornings and moved Andy “Crowley” Crowl to afternoons. Program Director Carly Evans departed, and KILO Program Director/cluster Operations Manager Ross Ford added programming oversight of KRXP. The station’s current lineup continues to identify Woody & Wilcox as its morning show, with Summer Justice providing a local morning presence.
