History

KMXY began as a construction permit under the call letters KMKE in 1992 and signed on as KMXY in 1996. Dick Maynard’s Jan-Di Broadcasting bought it in 1998, making it a sister to KEKB and KBKL. Townsquare Media owns it today.

May 24, 1984

KEKB-FM signs on in Grand Junction

May 24, 1984 — Dick Maynard's new Jan-Di Broadcasting signed on country station KEKB 99.9, licensed to Fruita, in the middle of a Western Slope economic slump. KEKB went on to a record 48 share among adults 25–54. Jan-Di later created KBKL (KOOL 107.9) in 1996 and bought KMXY (Mix 104.3) in 1998.
