KPKE was the call sign of Denver’s 95.7 FM station from 1983 to 1987, when it used the “All Hit 96” Top 40 identity. The 95.7 MHz signal is now programmed as Hits 95.7 (KPTT), and KPKE is retained here as an earlier station-era record.
History
The station’s lineage began as KMYR in 1966 at 95.5 MHz. It moved to 95.7 MHz and increased power in 1970. The call letters later changed to KHOW-FM, followed by the Top 40 identity KXKX (1977–1980) and another KHOW-FM period (1980–1983). On July 19, 1983, it returned to Top 40 programming as “All Hit 96 KPKE.” The station drew strong ratings during that period. In June 1987, it changed to the soft adult contemporary KSYY, branded “Sunny 95.7.” Subsequent call-sign and format changes included KHOW-FM, KHIH, KXKL, KXKL-FM and the current KPTT identity.

FROM THE TIMELINE
Moments in KPKE-FM History
KPKE launches All Hit 96 on 95.7
On July 19, 1983, Denver’s 95.7 FM returned to Top 40 as KPKE, All Hit 96. The change followed a progressive-rock period under the KHOW-FM calls and turned 95.7 into one of the major competitors in Denver’s 1980s CHR battle.
KPKE becomes Sunny 95.7
In June 1987, KPKE ended the All Hit 96 Top 40 format and 95.7 became soft adult contemporary KSYY, Sunny 95.7. The change closed one of Denver’s signature 1980s CHR runs.
95.7 becomes smooth jazz KHIH
In October 1993, Denver's 95.7 FM adopted the KHIH call letters and a smooth-jazz format after Noble Broadcast Group acquired the station. The KHIH identity had previously been used on 94.7 FM.
