Broadway Bill Lee is a nationally known music-radio personality whose career included a formative stop at KPKE in Denver. Born Bill Lenkey, he built a distinctive fast-paced, rhyming on-air style that later became familiar to listeners in New York and other major markets.
Colorado radio career
Lee came to Denver’s KPKE in 1985 after work at stations including WTIC-FM, KFRC-AM and WLOL-FM. He left Denver in late 1986 for New York’s new Hot 103, where the proximity to Broadway helped turn “Bill Lee” into the enduring on-air name Broadway Bill Lee.
Later career and recognition
After his Denver stop, Lee worked at WQHT/Hot 103 and Hot 97 in New York, KMEL in San Francisco, WKTU and WCBS-FM. His honors include industry personality awards and induction into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2022.
