COLORADO RADIO PERSONALITY

Uncle Steve Etheridge

Steve “Uncle Steve” Etheridge is a longtime radio personality whose Colorado career included KWYD-AM, KHII-FM, KKCS-FM, KBIQ-FM and KATC-FM.

Colorado radio career

Etheridge began his radio career in 1991 as a board operator at KWYD-AM, a daytime-only Christian talk station. In 1992, he worked as a board operator at KHII-FM and began a documented multi-year run at KKCS 101.9 FM, where he remained through 1999.

He joined KBIQ 102.7 FM in 2000 and stayed through 2006. When Etheridge returned to Colorado Springs radio in 2011, The Gazette reported that he had already spent 14 years on the local airwaves.

Austin and return to Colorado

In 2006, Etheridge left KBIQ and moved to Austin, Texas, to join Clear Channel contemporary Christian station KPEZ 102.3 “The River.” He served as afternoon-drive host and music director until the station was sold to CRISTA Ministries in 2010. He also worked part time as a public-address announcer at Texas State University in San Marcos.

On July 25, 2011, Etheridge briefly returned to Colorado Springs as the morning host on KATC 95.1 “Cat Country,” with Road Gato serving as producer and sidekick. Etheridge described Colorado Springs as home, noting that he began his radio career, married and raised his daughter there. His return ended after the sale of Citadel Broadcasting to Cumulus Media was completed.

Where Are They Now?

After his 2011 Colorado Springs stint, Etheridge returned to Austin. According to an update submitted to the Colorado Radio Archive, he has worked for a Mack Truck dealership since 2012.
