Ben Blecha is a sports broadcaster in Sterling and the play-by-play voice of Northeastern Junior College (NJC) athletics. If you have ever listened to an NJC game or a Sterling-area high school game on the radio, there is a good chance it was Ben on the mic.

Starting out in Sterling

According to NJC’s athletics site, he graduated from Colorado State University-Pueblo in 2004 and started that year at KSTC and KNNG in Sterling, covering high school sports. He called his first NJC broadcast, a basketball game at Lamar Community College, on Feb. 4, 2009, and became the full-time NJC voice during the 2009 baseball season.

KPMX and the NJC games

In 2013 he moved to KPMX in Sterling, where he continued calling NJC games, mostly on 94.5 The Ranch, and helped with high school coverage. On Feb. 4, 2020, exactly eleven years after his first game, he called his 1,000th NJC event.

Beyond play-by-play

The same bio says he spearheaded the Pink Out fundraiser for the NCCRA in 2007 and 2008. His Colorado Broadcasters Association credits run from 2019 through 2025 and include sports coverage, podcasts and public-affairs programs on KPMX, KSIR and KCGC, plus podcasts and talk programs credited to KNAB-FM.
