Walter Gallacher is the host of Immigrant Stories on KDNK, Carbondale’s community radio station, a monthly show where immigrants tell their own stories.

Immigrant Stories

KDNK says the program airs on the third Tuesday of each month and features people from around the world sharing stories of survival, alienation, persistence and triumph. If you’ve caught it, you’ve heard neighbors, from a high school principal to a chef who left Ukraine, talk about how they ended up in the valley. The host said on the station’s site that the show has run for more than sixteen years, and in one episode describes the host’s own family’s reasons for leaving Ireland.

In the CBA results

Colorado Broadcasters Association (CBA) results carry Walter’s name three times: an interview with John Goodwin about community-centered police work in 2020, Immigrant Stories in 2022 (credited with Paul Freeman, the Glenwood Springs High School principal who was the guest), and the same category again in 2024 (credited with Kathleen Fitzsimmons). KDNK reported that Walter was at the April 2023 gala in person for the 2022 recognition.
