    KFTM (1400 AM) is the Fort Morgan hometown station. If you’ve followed the Fort Morgan Mustangs on the radio or checked the local news over breakfast in Morgan County, you know this one.

    KFKA (1310 AM) is Greeley’s hometown station, and it goes all the way back to the earliest days of radio. If you’ve listened to Friday-night high school football or UNC Bears games in Northern Colorado, there’s a good chance you heard it on KFKA.

    An early start

    A 1929 Radio Digest directory lists KFKA in Greeley, ties it to Colorado State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Colorado) and gives 1923 as a founding year, though the station traces its start to 1921. The 1931 Year Book of the State of Colorado lists the station in Greeley under Midwestern Radio Corporation at 880 kHz and 1,000 watts. The station keeps its own history page with the longer story of how it began.
