KWLI (92.5 FM) was “Willie 92.5,” Denver’s country station for a stretch in 2006. If you tuned to 92.5 right after “Jammin’ 92.5” went away, this is the country station that showed up in its place.
The story
On December 14, 2005, 92.5 ran stunt messages telling listeners Denver radio would be “set free” the next morning. What showed up was country music, billed as “Willie 92.5” and “Wide Open Country,” a mix of old and new country. The calls changed from KDJM to KLWL on December 21, 2005, and then to KWLI on January 12, 2006. By late 2006 the station was renamed “92-5 The Wolf” and went after newer country, with the Willie format moving to an HD2 channel. During the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver it briefly called itself “92.5 The Jackass” before going back to The Wolf.
CBS Radio sold the station to Wilks Broadcasting in December 2008, and on March 6, 2009 KWLI became KWOF.
KWLI is one chapter of the same 92.5 signal that was KVOD, KDJM, KWOF and is now KKSE-FM, not a separate station.
