KWOF-FM

KWOF-FM was the “92.5 The Wolf” identity on Denver-area 92.5 FM from 2009 until September 2018. The calls followed KWLI on the Broomfield-licensed facility. The station carried country music under The Wolf branding and became part of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment’s Denver radio group after KSE acquired the Wilks stations in 2015.

Chronology

  • March 6, 2009: The facility changed call letters from KWLI to KWOF.
  • January 31, 2014: The station briefly used “92.5 The Bronco” during the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl XLVIII appearance, then returned to The Wolf.
  • October 2015: KSE announced its acquisition of Wilks Broadcasting’s Denver stations, including KWOF.
  • September 17, 2018: KWOF’s “Wolf” format ended. The station adopted the Altitude Sports format previously heard on AM 950 and took the KKSE-FM call letters.

KVOD classical moves from 99.5 to 92.5 FM

On February 18, 1996, Denver’s commercial classical format moved from 99.5 FM to the 92.5 facility then known as KZDG. The new station adopted the KVOD identity, preserving the classical service as Tribune prepared to convert 99.5 to classic rock.

May 21, 1999

KVOD classical moves from 92.5 FM to 1280 AM

On May 21, 1999, the commercial KVOD classical format left 92.5 FM and moved to Denver’s 1280 AM facility. The 92.5 station became KDJM with a Jammin’ Oldies format, while 1280 adopted the KVOD calls and continued classical programming.

October 12, 2015

Kroenke Sports & Entertainment buys Wilks Denver cluster

On October 12, 2015, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment announced an agreement to acquire Wilks Broadcasting’s Denver cluster: KXKL 105.1, KIMN 100.3 and KWOF 92.5. The transaction closed December 31, 2015 for $54 million.

92.5 The Wolf era ends as KSE prepares sports format

On September 17, 2018, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment ended the country format on KWOF “92.5 The Wolf” and moved Altitude Sports programming to the FM signal as KKSE-FM “Altitude Sports 92.5.”

Altitude Sports Radio launches on 92.5 FM

On September 17, 2018, KSE moved its sports programming to 92.5 FM, replacing country 92.5 The Wolf. The station became Altitude Sports Radio 92.5, later using the KKSE-FM call letters.
