KQMT (99.5 FM), branded “99.5 The Mountain,” is a commercial classic rock radio station serving the Denver metropolitan area. Licensed to Denver, Colorado, it broadcasts at 99.5 MHz with an effective radiated power of 100,000 watts. Its main transmitter is on Lookout Mountain near Golden. The station is owned by Audacy, Inc., and its current website is audacy.com/995themountain.
History
The 99.5 FM facility began as KDEN-FM in 1958 and adopted the KVOD call letters in 1969, when it carried commercial classical music. Henry Broadcasting acquired KVOD in 1983. In 1995, Henry sold the station to Tribune Broadcasting. Tribune transferred the classical format and KVOD identity to 92.5 FM in February 1996, then introduced classic rock as KKHK (“The Hawk”) on 99.5 FM in March.
Entercom Communications acquired the 99.5 facility from Tribune on March 21, 2003. KKHK adopted the KQMT call sign in May 2002 and later took on “The Mountain” branding. Entercom changed its corporate name to Audacy in 2021. The facility has therefore carried several different call signs and formats while remaining on the same Denver frequency.
