Dana Perino is a Colorado-raised broadcaster and former White House press secretary whose first on-air experience included an overnight shift at Pueblo country station KCCY-FM.
Early broadcasting in Pueblo
While studying mass communications at the University of Southern Colorado, now Colorado State University Pueblo, Perino worked at campus television station KTSC-TV and at KCCY-FM. Her KCCY assignment was the 2–6 a.m. shift, an early professional broadcasting role before she moved into political communications and national media.
Government and national media
Perino later worked on Capitol Hill and in the George W. Bush administration. She served as White House press secretary from September 2007 through January 2009, becoming the second woman to hold that position. She subsequently served on the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors.
She joined Fox News in 2009 and went on to co-host The Five, co-anchor America’s Newsroom, and host the Perino on Politics podcast. CSU Pueblo has recognized her as an alumna and invited her to deliver its 2023 commencement address.
