Don Kinney

Don Kinney came to Denver from CBS News in New York and spent the next three decades in Colorado news, on KLZ, KOA and public TV.

Career

In the 1960s Kinney was a CBS News writer and producer, working alongside Walter Cronkite, Charles Kuralt, Roger Mudd and Harry Reasoner, and he was part of the CBS team covering NASA launches. He moved to Denver in 1969 as a newsman for KLZ radio and television, stayed five years, then went to KOA as a reporter and anchor.

For almost 26 years he hosted and produced The State of Colorado on KRMA Channel 6, now Rocky Mountain PBS, interviewing more than 270 print journalists. He retired in July 2002 rather than turn the show from facts into opinion. He was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Colorado Hall of Fame in 2018.
