J. Ralph “Jack” Carter was a Pueblo broadcaster whose career moved from radio into television and made him a familiar Southern Colorado media figure.
Carter was a 1970 graduate of Southern Colorado State College, now Colorado State University Pueblo. Contemporary radio-industry publications document him at KDZA in the early and mid-1970s. In 1972 he wrote to the Hamilton Radio Report as a KDZA programmer, and by 1974 Radio & Records repeatedly directed applicants for KDZA programming and news openings to Jack Carter.
Carter later moved into television, including work at KOAA and KTSC. He became known to Southern Colorado television viewers as a weather broadcaster and as host of the locally produced quiz program Matchwits.
CSU Pueblo's alumni records identify “Jack Carter, aka J. Ralph Carter” and record that he died in 2009. Contemporary local coverage reported that Carter died after battling ALS. A reliable exact day and month have not yet been established by the archive, so they are not assigned here.
