James “Dr. Daddio” Walker was a pioneering Denver broadcaster, entrepreneur and community leader whose career became inseparable from KDKO 1510. Walker came to Denver in the 1960s and became one of the signature voices of the station as it developed into an influential soul and R&B outlet serving the Black community.
Walker later owned and operated KDKO. His broadcasting emphasized music, community information and civic involvement, and he mentored generations of broadcasters and community leaders. His familiar theme was “unity in the community.”
Walker died January 26, 2026 at age 86. Colorado Public Radio and Denver-area remembrances described him as one of the pioneering Black radio owners in the western United States and an enduring figure in Denver media history.
