COLORADO RADIO PERSONALITY

Len Williams

Len Williams is a Colorado Springs sports-radio host and programmer whose career included 1300 AM The Sports Animal and the unconventional KHIG “K-High Radio” experiment.

By 2010, Williams was hosting sports programming on 1300 AM The Sports Animal in Colorado Springs. Contemporary sports coverage documents interviews on his program, including discussion of major boxing events. His work placed him within the city’s locally produced sports-talk scene during a period when 1300 AM was built around sports programming.

Williams later became program director of KHIG 1580 AM while continuing to program the local sports outlet. In 2015, KHIG adopted a marijuana-focused talk format branded K-High Radio, an unusual experiment made possible by Colorado’s changing legal and cultural landscape. Trade and news coverage identified Williams as program director and described a weekday lineup mixing locally produced programs with national marijuana-news and health programming.

The format drew national attention because it was presented not as a temporary stunt but as a full-time talk service built around cannabis news, culture, business and health. Williams’ role therefore places him at the center of one of the more unusual format experiments in Colorado radio history.
