Nikki Swarn

Nikki Swarn, also known on air as Amerykah Jones, is a Colorado radio executive, programmer, personality and educator.

Colorado radio career

Swarn built more than two decades of Colorado broadcasting experience at commercial stations including KQKS-FM, KYGO-FM, Alice 105.9 and ESPN Radio. In public media she became founding general manager and program director of 104.7 The Drop (KUVO-HD2), helping build the R&B and hip-hop service into a nationally watched community station. She later also served as general manager of KUVO Jazz.

Under Swarn’s leadership, The Drop was named Westword’s Best New Radio Station in 2020 and Best Music Radio Station in 2021. She became the first African-American woman to serve as a radio general manager in Colorado.

Recognition and education

Swarn and The HotMess Express received Colorado Broadcasters Association recognition for Best Midday Show in 2021. She has taught music and entertainment studies at the University of Colorado Denver and served in civic arts leadership.
