COLORADO RADIO PERSONALITY

Paul Johnson

Paul Johnson was a key Citadel Communications programmer and manager in the 1990s, preceding Bobby Irwin as the cluster's Operations Manager.

National trade coverage dates Johnson's return to Colorado Springs precisely: the Gavin Report announced him as the new KKFM program director on July 15, 1994, arriving from WIRX in St. Joseph, Michigan. Radio & Records then reported on August 22, 1997 that Johnson was leaving KKFM for WKLR/Richmond, giving his principal KKFM PD tenure a documented 1994–97 span.

The 1996 Radio Business Report Source Guide lists Johnson as Program Director of KKFM 98.1 under Citadel Communications. By July 1998, an FMQB employment notice for KKFM directed applicants to Johnson, and a contemporaneous account by former KKFM personality Alysabeth Clements identifies him as Operations Manager. Later industry biographies independently list Operations Manager of Citadel Broadcasting/Colorado Springs among Johnson's career stops.

In January 1999, national Top 40 airplay reporting also listed Johnson as KKMG Assistant Program Director under PD Bobby Irwin, demonstrating that his cluster-management responsibilities overlapped with station-level programming duties.

Bobby Irwin, who joined Citadel in Colorado Springs in 1998, subsequently succeeded Johnson as cluster Operations Manager and was publicly identified in that position by 2003.
