COLORADO RADIO PERSONALITY

Paul Richards

Paul Richards, whose real name was Paul Mundt, was a Colorado Springs radio fixture whose broadcasting career spanned more than 30 years.

Richards was already established in the market by the early 1990s. The 1992 Broadcasting Yearbook lists Paul Richards as news director of KSSS/KVUU, alongside program director Rick Morgan. His Southern Colorado music-radio career ultimately included KSSS, KVUU, KKLI and KCSJ.

At KVUU, Richards became part of the morning show with Captain Dan Jackson. Renae Roberts later recalled joining Captain Dan and Paul as the station’s “Stunt Girl” after arriving at KVUU in 1995. In 1999 Richards, Captain Dan and Roberts moved together into full-time mornings on KKLI 106.3, where the trio became one of Colorado Springs’ best-known morning teams. Richards and Captain Dan accumulated so many local Best of the Springs honors that The Gazette presented them with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.

Richards later moved into news/talk radio at KCSJ and ultimately KRDO NewsRadio, where he co-anchored the morning news and delivered television traffic reports. He died in December 2016 at age 55. Contemporary coverage remembered him as a well-known Southern Colorado broadcaster and community volunteer.
