COLORADO RADIO PERSONALITY

Rosemary Barnwall

Rosemary Barnwell Tremblay was a Denver radio personality whose work at KHOW helped establish one of the station’s successful early-1970s morning teams.

Barnwell, known on the air as “Barney,” was already part of KHOW’s morning program when co-host Buzz Lawrence departed in 1971. Program director Hal Moore selected nighttime personality Charley Martin to join her, creating the Charley and Barney Show. The pairing proved immediately successful.

Contemporary accounts described Barnwell as a beauty queen, while later histories emphasized the program’s unusually strong audience performance. Billboard reported “phenomenal” ratings for the team, and Broadcast Pioneers of Colorado places the show among the sequence of highly rated morning partnerships that made Charley Martin a fixture at KHOW.

Barnwell left the program after marrying and moving to London in 1973. KHOW responded with a heavily promoted search for Martin’s next partner, eventually selecting Lynn “Marti” Martin. That transition ultimately led toward the later Hal & Charley era, but Barnwell’s program was an important earlier chapter in KHOW’s morning-show history.

Historical Denver media archives identify her later as Rosemary Barnwell Tremblay.
