Warren Chandler (died May 22, 2010) was a newscaster, weather forecaster and program director at KLZ radio and TV for nearly 25 years, during the stretch when KLZ led Denver’s news ratings.
Career
A Denver native, Chandler was a Navy radioman in World War II aboard the USS Ticonderoga and USS Topeka. At the University of Denver he helped set up the campus station, KVDU. He joined KLZ radio and KLZ-TV in 1953 and stayed until 1977; a 1957 Broadcasting ad for KLZ’s nighttime programming named him among the station’s news reporters along with Merwin Smith. He later worked at KOA-TV and KWGN-TV, spent two years in the Peace Corps in Chile, and received the Smokey Bear Award for his work on forest-fire prevention.
He was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Colorado Hall of Fame in 2010.
