KAVA was the call sign used from September 18, 1998, until February 16, 2023, on Pueblo’s 1480 AM facility. For much of that era, the station carried Spanish-language programming and was associated with other Spanish-language signals serving Southern Colorado.
2022–2023 transition
Kix Broadcasting began operating KAVA under a time-brokerage agreement on October 1, 2022, while pursuing the purchase of the station and translator K298CG. On October 20, the station changed from Regional Mexican programming to country as “Kix Country 107.5.” The sale closed January 6, 2023, and the call sign changed to KIXD on February 16.
Facility lineage
KTUX → KPUB → KGMQ → KAYK → KRRU → KAVA (1998–2023) → KIXD
Technical context
The AM facility is FCC facility ID 54259. The “107.5” branding refers to FM translator K298CG, not a change in the AM station’s 1480 kHz frequency.
