KBRQ-FM was the country chapter of Denver’s 105.1 FM lineage. The facility had signed on in 1956 as KTGM and later became KADX, carrying middle-of-the-road and then jazz programming.
Great Empire Broadcasting acquired the station and changed it to country in 1982 as KBRQ-FM, paired with KBRQ 1280 AM. The AM/FM combination carried the country identity until Shamrock Communications changed 105.1 to oldies on July 3, 1987 as KOOL 105/KXKL.
Related lineage: KTGM → KADX → KBRQ-FM → KXKL.
