KCJX-FM

KCJX-FM, Aspen Public Radio’s 88.9 MHz station licensed to Carbondale, Colorado. It is the network’s second primary signal, paired with KAJX 91.5 FM in Aspen.

Network role: Aspen Public Radio’s origins date to 1980, when Sy Coleman organized Roaring Fork Public Radio Translator. In 1981, the service began carrying noncommercial programming from KUWR in Wyoming through a chain of mountain-top translators. The FCC approved the KAJX call sign in 1988, making possible locally originated news and programming. KCJX now extends Aspen Public Radio’s reporting and NPR service from Aspen through Carbondale and the wider Roaring Fork Valley; listeners can remain on 88.9 as they travel through much of the valley.

This entry follows the Carbondale-licensed facility. It shares a network, newsroom, and programming identity with KAJX, while retaining its own call sign, frequency, and FCC public file.
