KGHA-AM

KGHA was one of Pueblo’s earliest broadcasting ventures. The Federal Radio Commission authorized George H. Sweeney and N. S. Walpole to construct the station in late 1927, and an FRC report recorded a February 1928 construction permit for 1430 kHz at 500 watts.

1928 record

A summer 1928 station directory listed KGHA in Pueblo at 1430 kHz, 500 watts, under Sweeney and Walpole. Under the nationwide reallocation that took effect November 11, 1928, KGHA was listed at 1200 kHz with 100 watts. The surviving period records document a short-lived early Pueblo station rather than the later, unrelated uses of similar call letters.
