KKRE was the 1040 AM Monument station serving the Colorado Springs area from Sept. 18, 1986 to Sept. 18, 1989.
The station launched with a Christian contemporary format. By late 1988, financial pressures led it to shift toward business news and talk using programming from the Colorado Springs-based Business Radio Network.
On Sept. 18, 1989, the station changed call letters to KCBR, reflecting the “Colorado’s Business Radio” identity.
Facility: 1040 AM, Monument — FCC Facility ID 10846.
Call-sign lineage: KRTS → KKRE → KCBR → KPPF.
