KPRN-FM, the 89.5 MHz public-radio station licensed to Grand Junction and part of Colorado Public Radio’s Western Slope service.
Origins and merger: Public Media Company records that KPRN began serving western Colorado in 1984. In 1991, KPRN and KCFR, Denver’s public-radio station, merged to create Colorado Public Radio. CPR’s institutional history places this merger at a turning point: one organization could bring public radio to listeners on both sides of the state, with later signals extending service to additional regions.
Continuing facility identity: KPRN remains a distinct FCC-licensed Grand Junction facility on 89.5 MHz within CPR’s broader network. It is catalogued here by its call sign, community of license, and frequency; the network affiliation is part of the station’s later institutional history.
