KVMN was the original call sign of Colorado Springs’ 98.9 FM station, which began broadcasting on January 1, 1967. It served the Pueblo and Colorado Springs market with beautiful-music and easy-listening programming before becoming KPLV in 1978.
History
The KVMN call sign marked the first era of the 98.9 MHz facility. The station’s early sound was built around orchestral, instrumental and vocal selections typical of the beautiful-music format. It changed to KPLV in 1978, KRQY in 1981 and KKMG in 1983, when the facility adopted Top 40 programming and the “Magic 99” identity. The frequency later became better known as 98.9 Magic FM.
