Art Phillips was a Southern Colorado rock-radio personality and music programmer whose documented career includes both KKFM in the 1970s and KILO in the 1980s.
A February 16, 1977 issue of the national rock-radio trade publication Walrus lists “KKFM — Art Phillips / Steve Scott, P.D.” in its Colorado Springs radio section. The listing places Phillips at KKFM during the station’s 1970s album-rock/progressive era, alongside Program Director Steve Scott.
Phillips later became a KILO music director and air personality during an important period in that station’s development. Contemporary music-industry reporting documents him as KILO‘s music director in the early 1980s, discussing records and programming in national rock-radio trade publications.
Later career coverage says Phillips spent eight years as music director and an air personality at KILO before moving into the record industry, where he held senior promotion positions with the Album Network, Hollywood Records, RCA Records and the Welk Music Group/Vanguard and Sugar Hill labels.
KILO‘s official memorial identifies Phillips among the station’s deceased legends. A reliable exact date of death has not yet been located, so the archive does not assign one.
